CALLIGRAPHY ETIQUETTE

 

Spell out all words including titles, names of streets, addresses, and states.
Example: "Alexander Avenue", "Philadelphia, Pennsylvania"
Be sure to list the correct zip codes for each city.
Titles such as: "Mr. and Mrs." is correct. When a doctor is listed, use "Dr. and Mrs.", or "Doctor and Mrs." etc.
Abbreviations should be avoided. Spell out Drive, Street, Avenue, Boulevard, Southwest, Northeast.
Single digit numbers can be spelled out too. (One, Two, Three, etc.)

Outer Envelope examples:

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spencer
12345 Maple Street
Grandview, Washington 98930

Dr. and Mrs. Steven Johnson
567 33rd Street Southwest
Apartment 8C
New York, New York 10025

If children are invited:
Children over the age of 18 should receive their own invitation.
Children's names should only appear on the inner envelope and
list them by age, oldest name first.
By omitting children's names on the outer and inner envelope, it is usually
understood that the event is adult only.

Return address should appear on the rear flap of the outer envelope.

For single guests list only their name on the outer envelope,
"Ms. Michelle Bosworth"
and on the inner envelope list whether you would like her
to have the option of bringing a guest by listing:
"Michelle and Guest"

Inner Envelope:
The general rule for inner envelope wording is to use whatever name
you would call them by in person. For example, if you refer to
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Johnson as "Mark and Shelly" in person, then it is
ok to list their first names on the inner envelope:
"Mark and Shelly"
